A healing response

"The only thing in life that you can control is the way in which you respond."

A common catchphrase and one I've been thinking about this morning. "The way in which I respond" has always felt to me to mean the way in which I respond to others or the outside event. The way I show up for what happened externally. The way in which I arrive to the scene and offer some version of myself. The focus has always been outwards.

What about the way we respond to ourselves? Our internal response.

My body has conflict days and healing days. Phases of an up-regulated and a down-regulated nervous system. Moments of euphoric connection and deep understanding intertwined with days of major symptoms accompanied with fear and heavy despair. Healing that feel oftentimes overwhelming to my mind and body.

I used to wake up and wonder how I was going to feel that day. Was my body going to react with symptoms or ease? Had I done something to trigger one or the other? I carried fear around about how I was going to feel and even more so, how I was going to react if I felt sick again. The unpredictability of ones own body can be exhausting. If you have also ridden the rollercoaster of chronic illness, I am sure you understand what I mean.

When I realized the way in which I was responding to myself wasn't with full compassion or trust, I saw an enormous opportunity for healing.

And as with my entire journey through chronic illness, herein lies yet another lesson for me to learn: how we respond to ourselves is of incredible importance. It affects your entire energy field and impacts your body's ability to heal itself. The message of "am I safe?" is one you must learn how to teach your own body if you want to truly heal. When your body knows it is safe in any phase, with any healing response, it is free to do what it is perfectly designed to do: HEAL.

In a short amount of time, the way in which I now respond to myself has drastically changed. Before I put my feet on the floor this morning, I thought to myself "Good job, body. I see how hard you are trying and I am so grateful. You are doing exactly what you need to do and I trust you."

The internal shift of becoming embodied. Becoming whole.

Your body is the way. Learn how to listen to it.

Its one and only goal is to keep you alive, endlessly striving for full and perfect health.

Our mind is strong but our body is wise. Honor it with everything.
